Terms of service

Last updated: August 5, 2026

This is the agreement between you and Thirdlight when you use the site or sit down with Elena. It is written to be read, and the short version comes first.

In plain words

  • Elena is an AI coach, and she says so in the first minute. This is coaching — not therapy, not medical care, and not an emergency service.
  • The first session is free, no card. If you subscribe, $49 a month covers both of you.
  • Cancel from your account in one tap. A 30-day pause is offered first. Your notebook stays readable after you cancel.
  • You must be 18 or older, and invitations are for your actual partner.
  • An AI can be wrong. Her suggestions are coaching, not professional advice — use your judgment, and see a human professional when it matters.

The summary above is a guide. The full text below is the part that governs.

1. Who we are

Thirdlight (“we”, “us”) provides couples coaching through live voice sessions with Elena, an AI coach, at thirdlight.app. By using the site or the product you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy.

Company details — being finalized
  • Operating entity: [Entity name and legal form — founder to confirm]
  • Registered address: [Business address — founder to confirm]
  • Governing law and venue: [State or country — founder to confirm with counsel]
  • Contact for privacy requests and legal notices: [Dedicated mailbox — founder to confirm. Until it exists, the email channel already in use for the product is the interim route.]

2. What Thirdlight is, and what it is not

Elena is an AI. She is not a person, not a licensed therapist, counselor, psychologist, or physician, and talking with her does not create a clinician relationship of any kind. Thirdlight is a coaching product and not a replacement for therapy or medical care. She does not diagnose, treat, or prescribe, and if what you need is a human professional, she will say so rather than keep you here.

Thirdlight is not an emergency service. If you or someone you love may be in danger, do not use it for help — call or text 988 in the US, or your local emergency number. The safety page lists people who can help right now.

3. Eligibility and accounts

You must be 18 or older. When you create an account, give accurate information, keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has been in it. Each account belongs to one person: a couple is two accounts, never a shared login.

4. Couples

  • One subscription covers both partners. One person pays; both get a full account.
  • Paying grants no access. The partner who pays sees nothing of the other’s private sessions, check-ins, or private notes — the walls are described in the privacy policy and on how it works.
  • Invitations exist to reach your actual partner. Only invite someone you are in a real relationship with, and remember the invitation message and letter are your words to them — write them as yourself.

5. The free session and the free week

Your first session is free, full-length, and takes no card. The free week runs 7 days from your couple’s first session — not from signup — and when your partner accepts the invitation, it resets to 7 days from the moment they join, so they never arrive with the clock half-spent. No card is required at any point during the free week.

6. Subscriptions and billing

  • The subscription is $49 per month and covers both partners. Payment is handled by Stripe once subscriptions are open; card details never touch our servers.
  • It renews monthly until you cancel. Cancel from your account, in one tap, any time; renewal stops, and any time already paid for runs to the end of its period.
  • Before you cancel we offer a 30-day pause — one tap as well, in case a break is what you actually want.
  • Canceling ends the billing, not your access to what was written. Your notebook and every session note stay readable after you cancel. What a lapsed subscription gates is starting new sessions.
  • If the price changes, we tell you at least 30 days ahead, and the change applies from your next billing cycle. No change is retroactive.

7. Your content, and Elena’s notes

What you write — an invitation message, a letter to your partner — is yours. You give us the limited license needed to store it and deliver it to the person it is for, and nothing more. What Elena writes for you — snapshots, session notes, takeaways — is yours to keep and use personally, whether or not you stay subscribed. We do not use your conversations to train AI models; the privacy policy covers that in full.

8. Acceptable use

Using Thirdlight, you agree not to:

  • break the law, or use the product to harm or harass anyone;
  • send invitations to people who are not your partner, or use the invitation flow to contact strangers;
  • probe, overload, or interfere with the service, or try to reach data that is not yours — including your partner’s private space;
  • copy, scrape, resell, or commercially exploit the service or its content;
  • reverse-engineer the service or use it to build a competing dataset or model;
  • impersonate another person, or let a minor use your account.

We can suspend or close accounts that do these things, with notice where practicable.

9. An honest paragraph about AI

Elena is built carefully on published research, and she is still an AI: she can misunderstand, overlook, or be plainly wrong. Her observations and suggestions are coaching prompts for the two of you to weigh — not professional, medical, legal, or financial advice, and not a substitute for your own judgment. Decisions about your relationship, health, or safety are yours, and the serious ones deserve a human professional in the room.

10. Availability and changes to the product

We work to keep Thirdlight up, and we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. The product will change as it improves; if we retire something that matters — your notes most of all — section 6’s promise holds: what was written for you stays readable or is given to you.

11. Our intellectual property

The service, the site, the method write-ups, and Elena herself belong to Thirdlight or its licensors. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the product, not ownership of any of it. If you send us feedback, we can use it to improve the product without owing a fee.

12. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, Thirdlight is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. We do not warrant any outcome for your relationship; no coach, human or otherwise, honestly could.

13. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, and our total liability for claims arising out of the service is capped at the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (or $49 if you have paid nothing). Some jurisdictions do not allow parts of this section; where that is you, those parts apply only as far as that law permits, and nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Indemnity

If your breach of these terms — misusing invitations most of all — gets us sued by someone else, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and damages that flow from that breach.

15. Ending things

You can stop using Thirdlight and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts for breach of these terms, with notice where practicable. Sections that by their nature outlive the agreement — your rights in what was written for you, disclaimers, liability limits, governing law — survive.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law named in the company block in section 1, and disputes belong to the courts named there. Before either of us goes to court, we agree to try writing to each other first — most problems are fixable by email.

17. Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update this page and the date at the top. For material changes we give account holders notice by email at least 14 days before they take effect; continuing to use Thirdlight after that means the new terms apply. If you do not agree, stop using the service and, if you subscribe, cancel — your notes remain readable either way.

18. Contact

Notices and questions go to the contact in the company block in section 1.
